If you’ve followed Simple Little Life on YouTube for a while, you probably know that I like to celebrate milestones by doing giveaways! Well, I’m keeping that trend going and we are coming up no one hundred thousand subscribers! 100K! That’s nuts! Never did I ever think this would happen, and I am so excited and honoured to be a part of the maker community on YouTube. More than just a number, it represents a growing community of friends, idea sharers and people wanting to learn to make things, make knives and just improve their skills over all.
For this GAW, I reached out to Foredom Electric Company, and they have donated a Foredom power carver set to be given away once we hit 100K subs on YouTube. Huge thank you to Foredom for getting behind this GAW and supporting the channel in this way. I am so grateful and amazed at their involvement.
I love my Foredom and use it in so many projects, including every knife that I make.
Here are two videos you can check out; the first is the GAW announcement video (please note, this is not the video that you enter to win on, that one is coming soon😀) and the second is a Tool Time Tuesday I did on the Foredom.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the support that you have shown in the past year that have made this channel grow, and it is such an amazing community to be involved in. Hopefully we’ll be launching the GAW soon and get this awesome tool into one of your hands!
We made an announcement last week on our YouTube channel that we’re doing another give away to mark a milestone for the channel. 50,000 Subscribers! Now, at the time of this post we’re not there yet, but we did announce what would be given away once we reach that mark.
First item will be the knife maker’s sanding block that I sell, and the second is actually a sponsored prize from Oneida, the company that makes the Dust Deputy. They have been so kind to add a Dust Deputy complete kit to the give away.
So once we’re reached 50K on the channel, we will make the video saying “Comment below to win” and all you have to do is be a subscriber, and leave a comment on that video and you’re entered. The sanding block will ship anywhere on earth, the Dust Deputy will ship only to a winner that lives in either Canada or the USA. (This is strictly due to the high cost of shipping such a large box overseas).
Thank you so much for all of your support and keep an eye out for the announcement video and make sure you get in on it! It’s just a little way for us to say thank you.
Well, to get things moving further over on the youtube channel, I have decided to give away a handmade knife. We haven’t really shared much on the knife-making front here the blog, but it does happen and it happens fairly often. What started as a hobby and a way for me to have all the knives I wanted without having to drain the bank (knife collecting can be an expensive habit) has turned into a fun little side hustle that is starting to gain some momentum. It was about 3 years ago that I tried making my first knife, and since then they have steadily been getting better.
I’ve started to sell a few here and there and I am now getting orders for one-off custom knives from collectors in the United States. It feels nice to have people want and appreciate things that you make by hand. Anyway, I did a video on making a bushcraft knife and showed all the steps involved. That video is here:
Part of the reason for making that blade was so that I could have that exact knife to use as a giveaway once the SLL youtube channel reaches 2000 subscribers. We’re at just over 430 now so it’s a bit of a ways to go, but I think that it’s a fairly attainable goal. Especially if we can keep putting up half decent content for people to watch. There are tons of channels on YouTube that have multi-thousands of subscribers, and some in the millions, so really, 2000 is not by any means a big YouTube channel, but I think it’s a pretty decent start. Anyway, here’s the announcement video of the contest. Make sure to subscribe, and comment on the video that I will put up once we reach 2000 subscribers and you could win this knife!
